Mekong Delta day tour – Cai Rang floating market

Mr. Ninh arranged a wonderful trip for us from Saigon to the Cai Rang floating market. I tried to arrange a day trip to Cai Rang with other more reviewed Mekong delta tour groups with no luck. They would only go to Cai Be in one day, which is not the same as Cai Rang.  All in all, a great tour and just what I wanted!

Nha Trang: Pre-tour day

AAT will pick you up from airport and take you to your pre-tour accommodation. There will be some time for sightseeing- so, if you can, make time to wander around the town, maybe even visit the beach for a quick swim. A Welcome Dinner is supplied in the evening, along with a comprehensive briefing of the journey. AAT will also provide a map of our intended journey. This is also a great time to meet the other riders.

Day 1  Nha Trang -Phan Rang (120km)

You will leave Nha Trang and the chaos of morning traffic of this bustling seaside resort town. You will travel along the coastal beach roads towards Phan Rang and maybe stop at one of the beautiful little beaches where you can relax and even take a dip. Lunch will be a special picnic treat or, if the weather doesn’t agree, then at one of the restaurants on the cove. You will then continue to Phan Rang where you will finish the first day with a cold drink and then swap some stories over dinner.

Day 2 Phan Rang- Da Lat (120km)

You will travel via some main and secondary roads that are a load of fun on the Jeep’s. First we can stop off at the Cham Towers- ruins that date back to the earliest times in this part of the world. Then it’s down through valleys that are seldom visited by foreign travellers. After lunch at one of the small towns, we head towards the mountain resort of Dalat- considered the honeymoon capital of Vietnam. First though, a quick trip to the waterfalls that lay a little south of our destination. Then we can just relax near the lake at a sidewalk café and watch the world go by. If you have enough energy, take time to visit the night markets that take over the centre of town after-dark.

Day 3 : Dalat – Lak lake 180km

Today we are off to Lak Lake- via the scenic route. Lak Lake is the largest natural body of water in the central highlands and the Jeep’s will revel in the mix of roads that lead to this natural beauty and calm of this locality.  We will arrive early, leaving plenty of time to wind down and wander around this small town or maybe even take a ride on the local elephants.  If you are up early enough then a visit to the local markets is always a treat.   Vietnam is filled with ethnic minorities and hill tribes that have inhabited the area for many centuries, and the area around Lak Lake is no different.

Day 4 : Lak Lake – Buon Ma Thuot 110km

Today it’s a short ride to Buon Ma Thuot, not too far from the Cambodian border.  Buon Ma Thuot is the capital of Dak Lak Province- more winding roads, more valleys, more fun.    Lunch will be a picnic at the spectacular Dray Nur Falls- wander to the nearby village or, for the brave, consider a dip at the bubbling base of the falls. This is truly an oasis to visit.   Upon arrival at Buon Ma Thuot, mingle with the locals, people are friendly, the coffee is great, and a stop here is well worth the getting off the beaten track.

Day 5 : Buon Me Thuot – Nha Trang 240km
